How To Boost Your Productivity If You Work From Home

Advances in online business have opened the door for many entrepreneurs to work from home. From store owners tackling admin from the leisure of their couch to homebuyers looking for property for sale which will double as both a home and office space – home working is becoming a more acceptable and accessible opportunity for independent merchants.

For many, being able to avoid long commutes and save on renting a workspace makes this the more efficient option. However, it does present unique challenges – not least when it comes to staying productive when surrounded by potential distraction. More often than not, business owners working at home struggle to maintain a point of balance between their jobs and their domestic lives as the latter will always vie for attention.

Our Top Five Tips To Boost Your Concentration And Meet Your Completion Goals

There are many ways to stay at your maximum proficiency throughout the day; here are our top five tips to ensure you meet your daily deadlines working from home.

Create A Separate Working Room

Whether you’re running an online fashion store from home, selling homemade baked goods or working on a new marketing strategy for your main-street shop – you need to draw a clear line between your home and work environment. This means setting up a dedicated working area where it won’t be easy for your personal life to spill over into your professional life. Choose a room that has lots of natural light. Furnish your office with a comfortable desk and chair or create a working surface that’s large and convenient enough. Paint the room with colors that help you to focus, such as green and blue hues. Add plants and wall décor to inspire you.

Schedule Your Working Hours

Being able to work from home gives you much more freedom. But this can lead to an irregular working schedule. Doing a quick load of laundry or watering the plants between client orders might appear insignificant in the bigger picture but can end up curbing your workflow. If you stick to specific hours like you do at the office, you’re more likely to make your day more productive.

Eat A Healthy Breakfast

The great thing about working at home is that you’ll have time to prepare a decent breakfast instead of just rushing to the store and grabbing a doughnut on the way to work. There’s a reason why your first meal is considered the most important – it provides you with the energy you need to stay active and engaged while on the job. Try to eat low-GI choices–eggs, oatmeal, fruit (bananas, berries and apples) and Greek yogurt–to ensure you have enough fuel to last until your next meal.

Limit Contact With Others

Make yourself available only for customer visits or communication. Let family, friends and neighbors know that you do not want to be disturbed when you’re working at home. It’s so easy to get sidetracked by text messages, social media, phone-calls, and push notifications coming from electronic devices, so save yourself from distractions and go off-grid during work hours.

Keep Your Tools And Supplies Handy

If your work requires you to complete tasks online, make sure you have a fast and reliable internet connection and updated software for your industry. If you have a home-based manufacturing business, (for example, you create smartphone accessories or manufacture toys) it’s better to be fully stocked up in advance. Nothing can delay an order quite like running out of resources and supplies and having to take a trip to the supplier for new stock.

When working from home it’s important to stay focused in order to have a productive day. This means building habits that will help enhance efficiency as well as finding solutions that will help you deal with everyday household interferences.
