Spring Cleaning Tips For Your Retail Store

There may be snow on the ground in some parts of the country still, but Spring is just around the corner. And with the smell of flowers, fresh cut grass and rain also lingers the task of Spring cleaning. But before you roll your eyes and dread your never ending to-do-list, hear us out. Spring cleaning can actually be a really great thing for your business.

To kick start your store cleaning plans, first you should identify what you want to gain from this. Do you want to feel refreshed? Do you want your store to look refreshed? Do you want both?

A great place to start is by reviewing your inventory. While having a consistent sales plan that includes markdowns for faster sell thrus should already be in place, often old inventory piles up. This can make your store look stale and outdated… and Spring cleaning is the perfect excuse (if you need one) to get rid of excess inventory. Evaluate all inventory and if it’s more than three months old, consider a hard markdown. Market a “Spring Cleaning Sale” and get your customers excited for great prices, bargain deals and new products for their own Spring plans. Of course – we realize there are exceptions to every rule, so some of your inventory just may need reinvention. Consider bundle packaging it with other items, re-merchandise it to make it look fresh and use the web to help push sales. The ultimate idea here is to reduce your excess inventory and open up dollars to buy products that will rejuvenate and bring life to your store (and sales… of course).

Now that your inventory has a plan of attack, take a look at your store floor plan, cash wrap and overall layout. Does it need a face-lift? By simply moving fixtures around, cleaning & organizing your cash wrap and creating a new flow in your store, customers will feel refreshed when shopping in your retail space. You and your team will also feel this, bringing elevated energy and sales to your day to day operations. Remember during this entire process to clean, clean, clean. Dust, broom, polish, throw away, straighten up and make everything shine with Spring sparkle!

No Spring cleaning is complete without a personal little pick-you-up, as well. Consider doing a cleanse, wardrobe re-do, new lipstick shade or get a haircut. The change can do wonders in your mood, your motivation and your overall outreach towards your store and business.
