Generational Insights: Hello, How Are You & Gaming

Welcome to my first write-up as part of the Retail Minded team!

I’m thrilled to be on board and to bring my insight into the retail and technology sectors for Retail Minded. It’s been inspiring to see how many new and existing Retail Minded clients are as excited as we are about the announcement of my addition to Retail Minded (click here in case you missed it) and to watch our social media followers rally to spread the word about the launch of the new Content Services program from Retail Minded, which you can learn more about here.

My addition to Retail Minded will extend more news, education and support to the Retail Minded audience, and I couldn’t be more excited about lending insights regarding consumer marketing, technology, data and more to Retail Minded. Specifically, you can expect to gain a lot of information from me about Millennials, Gen Y and all things to do with consumer marketing to the various generations in which retailers want to attract.

As I dive into my first Generational Insights column, I want to share some of the recent trends I have been seeing in various retail sectors that cater to Millennials. In the past month, I’ve noticed a gaming trend amongst retailers and other businesses which cater to this audience including Google Maps morphing into Ms. Pac Man for April Fool’s Day and Koppa’s Deli offering customers free Atari along with their sandwiches. Retailers and service providers alike are going back to (gaming) basics to appeal to Generation Y, which makes me wonder what we can see soon from other retailers looking to gain this type of attention. What I also find fascinating is that these companies are onto a well-known, but rarely heeded fact about the Millennial customer… which, quite simply, is this…
