The Ultimate Facebook Posting Rule for Independent Retailers

(To view the full infographic of this image, please click here)

The endless variety of content shared on Facebook makes it difficult to decide what to post for your store’s audience. The good news is that after years of feedback, SnapRetail has created a solution so you do not have to stress over what to post. They dubbed it The 60/30/10 Facebook Posting Rule.

This rule divides your posts into 3 categories to ensure that 60% of posts are resourceful, 30% build your brand and 10% share content relevant to your audience. See how we break it down even further and take away some ideas to begin implementing the 60/30/10 Rule on your Facebook page today.

60% Be a Resource

Keep your brand in mind while posting content your customers will find interesting.

Posts should include trends that go hand in hand with your unique store.

  • Salon: Share an article about how to protect your hair from the summer sun.
  • Fitness Center: Share a protein shake recipe for customers to try.
  • Bridal Store: Share a list of “must have” items a bride needs on her big day.

Ask your customers questions to encourage them to interact with you. Questions indicate a call-to-action that generates buzz on social media.

  • Travel Agency/Luggage Retailer: What is your must have road trip snack?
  • Farmer’s Market: Share some of your favorite summer recipes with us below!
  • Daycare Center: How do you prepare your kids for back to school? Share some tips in the comments.

In addition, you can provide useful tips and relatable quotes to your customers.

  • If your customers are young families, share family game night ideas.
  • Garden centers may offer suggestions to keep deer away from their plants.
  • Salons post hair and makeup tutorials.
  • Motivational quotes can be posted by any type of retailer. Boost your customer’s mood!

Informative posts go a long way. Add links to local events and entertainment. If there is a fundraiser, holiday parade or local band playing in your community, spread the fun and post information about these events to your social community. Tag appropriate sources and they may even return the favor by posting about your awesome store.

Have fun and keep your posts upbeat. Pictures and videos that bring humor to your page are very attractive to customers.

30% Build Your Brand

A Facebook page with personality is guaranteed to be a hit. That is why featuring content that brings your store to life is very important.

Displaying your store is a must. Let your customers see what you have to offer from the comfort of their own home. Post photos of your newest arrivals, a new window display or customers enjoying themselves at your latest event. Post a picture that will spark your customers’ interest and ultimately bring them into your store. Getting a sneak peek of what your store offers or how other customers enjoy your store encourages new customers to visit you.

Personalize your business with photos of your staff. Photos that display your personality grab attention and make your customer feel at home when they visit your store. You can even include a small bio of your employees to strengthen the bond customers have with your store.

Promoting exclusive in-store offers and events on your Facebook page will also generate more traffic into your store. If you are having a sale this weekend, invite your social community!

10% Share Content

Facebook pages are a two way street and this is where sharing content comes into play. Following other local businesses and sharing their content will help generate buzz and develop relationships in your social community. You can even rate a product or service from another local business by tagging them on your page.

In the social media world, what goes around comes around, and sharing other’s content will make them more likely to share your content in return. Sharing is a “win-win” situation for the small businesses in your community and it starts right on your Facebook page.

Keep your customers in the loop in order to build trust and a sense of community. Be a news source to your customers by sharing articles from your local news station or other relevant content. If sunshine is in the weather forecast, share that with your customers and wish them a good day. Sharing content like this will add more variety to the posts your customers see and even put a smile on their faces.

The 60/30/10 Rule is an outline to better engage your customers, develop stronger relationships with customers and make your posts productive. Being a resource, building your brand and sharing content will improve your posts and before you know it, your Facebook page will be a must see in your customers’ News Feed.
