Facebook Makes Promoting Contests / Events Easier

Facebook recently announced it will eliminate the need for third parties, such as Vitrue or Salesforce’s Marketing Cloud, to be needed to execute promotions or contests on Facebook. While this move may not make these third parties happy, it’s a nice step towards making small business and large business users alike much more engaged with using Facebook as part of their marketing strategy. Additionally, Facebook’s goal is to make users of Facebook also more engaged in participating in contests and promotions via the social media network.

Like all changes to Facebook, users can expect updated Facebook Page Terms – which seem to shift fairly regularly. Their latest changes include allowing brands to offer promotions right on their Page Timelines and also in apps on the social network. However, brands and businesses will still NOT be able to offer placement on personal Timelines. What they can do, though, includes:

1. Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post

2. Collect entries by having users message the Page

3. Utilize “likes” as a voting mechanism

With Facebook’s latest news, we’re curious what you think. Will you be more likely to run contests or promotions through Facebook now that a third party is not involved? Let us know! Please comment below.

Thanks for sharing this. This would definitely make me more likely to run a contest as my page is new (i.e. not very many likes yet!) and it would help generate more likes/interaction on my page. Putting it on my to-do list!

I am so glad Facebook decided to make this change. This makes running contests easier on the retailer, and more fun and interactive for the customer/fan. I’m planning to run a giveaway on Facebook this week. Thanks for the post!
